Earlier this year, Wymeswold Parish Council was successful in securing a grant of £3265 from Charnwood Borough Council to create and stock a flood locker: a secure and waterproof storage unit for the equipment needed by our village Flood Wardens during periods of flooding. Plans for this have been going on behind the scenes ever since.
This week the Parish Council signed an agreement with the Methodist Church to refurbish an old storage building on their grounds for this very purpose.
The Parish Council and the local Methodist community are delighted to be working in partnership on this mutually beneficial scheme, enabling the refurbishment of a delapidated part of the church premises so that it can be put to good use to support local residents during flooding events. A win-win situation for all! The Methodist Connexional Conservation Officer, Joanne Balmforth, described this as 'a wonderful new use for a charming little appendage'.
The locker is perfectly sited for ease of use, being immediately adjacent to the area most likely to flood but on riased ground that it safe from flooding.
The Council hope to have the locker up and ready to use well in advance of any autumn flooding events.
Well done and thank you to all concerned!
