Information from Charnwood Borough Council

The Health Protection (Coronavirus Restrictions) (England) Regulations 2020

Charnwood Borough Council Environmental Protection team are urging people to show more consideration and to respect the needs of others and the wider community by stopping burning over the next 12 weeks.

People with respiratory problems are extremely vulnerable to the effect of smoke inhalation and requiring treatment for this puts them at risk of exposure to Covid-19.

Residents spending more time at home may also suffer nuisance from bonfire smoke preventing them spending time in their gardens which is often the only place where they can get exercise, relax or enjoy some fresh air.

The Council has used social media postings to ask people not to have garden bonfires at this time and we are also looking to ensure allotment holders are also aware of the message.

Many allotment holders have already adopted a responsible position on bonfires, but reinforcing the message will hopefully prevent any impact on vulnerable or isolating residents.
