Tough start for promoted Wymeswold
Having gained promotion last season, Wymeswold found it tough going for their first game in the South Notts Cricket League Division D as they fell to a comprehensive seven wicket defeat at Beeston and Toton Sycamore.
Skipper Rob Pitman lost the toss and was asked to bat first on a drying wicket, Pitman himself making 29 as the Wolds side struggled. Charlie Rayns hit 31 and Harry Shaw ended with an excellent unbeaten 60 as Wymeswold ended on 177 for 5 from 45 overs.
In reply the bowlers couldn’t make inroads needed as the home side cruised to the victory target with 15 overs to spare for the loss of three wickets, newcomer Harry Scoble claiming 2 for 43.
Meanwhile in Division L of the league Wymeswold 2nds started their season with a 58-run win at home to Basford Mill 2nds. Newcomer Ethan Muggleton hit 60 not out, Jason Whowell made 40, Pete Shaw 32 and Andrew Shelton 22 as the Wold reached 221 for 5 in 40 overs.
In reply skipper Dwight Bent took 4 for 27 and Andrew Shelton 3 for 28 as Wymeswold bowled the visitors out for 163 in 39.4 overs to claim maximum points.
