May Elections

At the close of nominations for the Parish Council elections on 7th May only five nominations were received for the seven positions available. Therefore it will not be necessary to hold an election as the nominations are uncontested.  The five councillors who were nominated are: Adrian Cooke, Jo Ling, Nick Shaw, Sarah Sturmey and Lesley Blount. Wymeswold Parish Council has positions for seven councillors so we have two vacancies to fill through co-option. If you are interested in the affairs of the village and would like to contribute to issues such as planning applications or have ideas for our play areas and open spaces, please get in touch with the Clerk for further information on being co-opted as parish councillor.

The General Election will take place on 7th May and the polling station will as usual be in the Memorial Hall. To vote in an election you must be on the electoral register. You can register online or by post.

Sports Pavilion Refurbishment

You may have noticed that the sports pavilion refurbishment is well underway and is progressing at a steady state. We are looking forward to the unveiling of the new building and are very excited about this fantastic new facility which will be a great benefit and asset to the village.

A Final Note

After 16 years of service Cllr Ken Barratt has decided to stand down from the Parish Council. With his local knowledge of the village Cllr Barratt has been a great asset to the Parish Council and will be missed. We wish him all the best in his retirement.

The next meeting of Wymeswold Parish Council will held on Monday 11th May 2015 in the Jubilee Room, Wymeswold Memorial Hall, Clay Street, Wymeswold, starting at 7:30pm. All parishioners are welcome to attend.

The Annual Parish Meeting and the Annual Meeting of the Parish Council will precede the normal monthly meeting of the Parish Council and will commence at 7:15 pm.  All parishioners are welcome to attend.

Co–option of new councillors

We are pleased to welcome Cllr Richard Higgins and Cllr Jeremy Clouston–Jones to the Parish Council and look forward to working with them. This means that the Parish Council is now acting as a complete council with seven Councillors that are allocated to Wymeswold. We would like to thank the parishioners who came forward to offer their help and support to the co–option of new members.

Audit

The Parish Council’s annual audit has now been submitted to the external auditors after passing thorough internal checks. This is an annual legal requirement of the Parish Council and the accounts are available for inspection if required.

Neighbourhood Plan

As a result of the recent increase in planning applications around the village the possibility of producing a Neighbourhood Plan has been suggested again. The Parish Council did research the idea last year, however it was decided it was not possible to progress further as there was not enough support from parishioners. If this is something that you think should be revisited and are interested in helping with please contact the Parish Council using the details below.

Sports Pavilion Refurbishment

We are looking forward to opening the new sports pavilion on Sunday 28th June at 12.30pm and hope that many of you will be able to come and have a look at the fantastic new facility that we have in the village.

Parish Council Report November 2015

Core Strategy

The Charnwood Borough Council core strategy was due to be adopted at a meeting on 9th November. The Core Strategy is the Borough Council’s vision of where new housing, employment and infrastructure should go until 2028. An independent planning inspector recently completed his examination of the Core Strategy, concluding that it was sound and could be adopted provided some amendments were made. The Core Strategy will be considered when deciding upon all future planning applications.

The Washdyke Committee

The Washdyke Committee started in 2007 with the aim to develop The Washdyke field into a community orchard and play area. As the project has now come to an end the responsibility of The Washdyke has been handed to the Parish Council with volunteer parties still meeting for seasonal work. The Parish Council would like to express Thanks to the Committee for all of their hard work and effort in creating a wonderful community facility for the village.
